Window Seat Privacy Policy

Effective 16 October 2026

Window Seat is made by Modern Mustard Seed ("we"). This policy covers the Window Seat app for iPhone and windowseat.earth. The short version: no account is needed, there is no advertising and no tracking, and the little we touch is used only to make the app work.

What stays on your phone

Your place, your starred cameras, your alert settings and quiet hours are stored on your device. They are not uploaded. Deleting the app, or Settings, Clear everything on this phone, removes them.

Location

If you choose "Use my location", the app asks iOS for your location while the app is in use. It is rounded to two decimal places, about one kilometre, before it is stored on your phone or used. The rounded coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo to fetch the forecast for your sunset. We do not receive or store your location. You can search for a town instead and never grant location access.

Forecast and space weather data

Forecasts come from Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) and space weather from the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center. Requests to Open-Meteo contain the rounded coordinates or the town you searched for. NOAA requests contain nothing about you.

Cameras

Cameras are the public live streams of their operators. Most play through the YouTube player, which is provided by Google and governed by Google's privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy). When a still-image camera or a channel camera loads, the app asks windowseat.earth for the current frame or stream id; that request contains the camera's id and nothing about you.

Purchases

Purchases are made through Apple. RevenueCat (revenuecat.com) processes the App Store receipt so the app knows whether Window Seat Full is active, and so you can restore it. RevenueCat receives an anonymous customer id, or your account id if you are signed in. We never see your payment details.

Optional account

Signing in is optional and only links Window Seat Full across your iPhone and windowseat.earth. If you sign in we store your email address and an account id with Supabase (supabase.com), and use your email only to send sign-in codes. If you allow notifications while signed in, we also store your device's push token and your aurora alert threshold so we can send aurora alerts. We do not store your location with your account.

You can delete your account at any time in the app: Settings, Account, Delete my account. This permanently removes your account and your device registrations. A subscription is billed by Apple and must be cancelled in your Apple ID settings.

Notifications

Sunset reminders and golden hour alerts are scheduled on your phone. Aurora alerts may be sent by our server through Expo's push service when you are signed in. You can turn any of them off in the app or in iOS Settings.

What we do not do

We do not sell or share personal information, do not use it for advertising, do not track you across other apps or websites, and do not run analytics in the app.

On windowseat.earth

The website works without an account and sets no advertising or tracking cookies. A few things it does that the app does not:

• Buying Full on the web. Checkout is run by Stripe (stripe.com). Stripe receives your email address and card details; we receive your email, the plan and its status, never the card.
• Today's Light, the daily email. If you sign up we store your email address, your time zone (so the issue arrives in your morning), where you signed up, and the date you confirmed. Emails are sent through Resend (resend.com). Every email has a one-click unsubscribe.
• Browser alerts. If you turn on alerts in your browser, we store the push subscription your browser gives us and the alert settings you chose, so the alerts can reach you. Turning alerts off removes it.
• Travel links. Links to booking sites go through windowseat.earth/go so we can count clicks per partner. We count clicks only, with no visitor id. The partner site you land on sets its own cookies under its own policy.
• Page counts. We count views of the Full page and checkout starts, without a visitor id, to see whether the page is working.
• Hosting. The site runs on Vercel (vercel.com), which keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for a short period for security and debugging.

Children

Window Seat is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The optional account is not intended for children under 13.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by deleting your account in the app or by emailing us. We answer every request.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is posted at windowseat.earth/privacy with a new effective date.
